1881 Wood Engraving Admiral David Farragut American Civil War Navy Ships XEI9 AC1 "Christmas BellsThis is an original 1881 black and white wood engraving of the naval battle between the USS Kearsarge and the CSS Alabama of France, which took place during the United States Civil War. The USS Kearsarge was originally built at the Portsmouth Navy Shipbuilding Yard of Kittery, Maine, prior to setting sail toward Europe where this historic battle took place. Under the direction of Captain John Winslow (top inset), the United States Navy won the battle.
